Call for Papers

This conference celebrates the seventh edition of the Multidisciplinary Network of Researchers on Indigenous Peoples EMPI (redempi.blogspot.com.it) founded in 2010 at the University of Salamanca.
The objective of this seventh meeting that will be held at the Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy), is to offer a multidisciplinary debate on indigenous issues by addressing three main themes: the effects and the impacts of economic development and crisis on these peoples in different parts of the world; the role of these economic phenomena in generating or multiplying existing inequalities, or in fuelling potential social conflicts; forms of indigenous organization and resistance.

The sub-thematic areas of interest to the next meeting are:
1)      Indigenous peoples vis-à-vis socio-economic exclusion and inequality
2)      Indigenous peoples and gender-related inequalities: theoretical and practical aspects
3)      Indigenous peoples and natural resources’ exploitation
4)      Old and new policies to combat inequalities faced by indigenous peoples
5)      Indigenous peoples, public policies and potential socio-economic conflicts
6)      Forms of indigenous and political aggregation and organization in times of socio-economic crisis

Besides these above-mentioned areas, the Scientific Committee may consider also other paper proposals dealing more broadly with indigenous peoples.
